Landlords 'should maintain important standards'

Landlords with buy-to-let properties have been encouraged to
maintain standards of living for tenants.
Earlier this week, the Occupier Satisfaction Survey 2010 was
released, revealing that less than five per cent of tenants think
that service charge arrangements from their landlords have improved
over the last year.
Speaking in response to the findings, the British Retail
Consortium's (BRC) head of property Elizabeth Hinde suggested that
there are key areas which landlords with buy-to-let properties can
improve on in order to keep their tenants satisfied.
She said: "The results clearly indicate that greater consistency in
basic property management is needed across the entire
sector."
Ms Hinde added that landlords can take simple steps to improve
their relationship with tenants, including boosting communication
and creating service charge transparency.
As well as maintaining standards for residents, landlords were told
by the Association of Residential Letting
Agents to do their homework before taking on a tenant in order
to make sure they adhere to legislative requirements.
