More affordable housing made available, says CLG
Those seeking new affordable housing may be tempted to visit an
estate agent in Chorlton-Cum-Hardy, Banbury or
elsewhere in the country, following the publication of new figures
from Communities and Local Government (CLG).
In a statement published yesterday (December 8th), the body noted
that a gross total of 55,770 extra affordable properties were
created in England over the course of 2008-9.
The group noted that this represents an increase of four per cent
from the 53,480 new affordable houses that were supplied in
2007-8.
London and the south-east of England received the highest number of
new reasonably-priced homes, over this time period, with the former
benefiting from 23 per cent and the latter accruing 19 per cent of
all new properties of this kind.
In addition, CLG explained that the figure of 55,770 is the highest
number of new affordable properties to be made available in the
country since 1996-7.
Earlier this month, Patrick Sumner, chair of Reita, said that
property prices could rise by as much as 15 per cent over the
course of 2010.
