Survey reveals increase in property sales

Property sales in October increased by 13.4 per cent compared to
the previous month, according to the latest data from the Agency
Express Property Activity Index.
The research, which was reported by Your Mortgage, is based on the
number and activity status of sold and for sale signs around the
UK.
In comparison to 2008, property prices have risen significantly,
with sales up by 37.8 per cent over October last year.
Property markets in London, the south-east and the east Midlands
all helped to boost the figures.
Sales were at their highest levels for a year and a half among
estate agents in Wales and the east Midlands.
Meanwhile, it was Southampton that experienced the biggest rise in
monthly property sales among the UK's cities with an increase of
62.5 per cent over September.
Stephen Watson, managing director at Agency Express, commented:
"This month's results provide the housing industry with a very
encouraging set of figures."
He added: "The number of sales in October was nearly 80 per cent
higher than those achieved in January."
