About The Area

Lytchett Matravers is an authentic, rustic Dorset village that has a working history that spans 1000 years. The village is mentioned in The Domesday Book, originally pronounced as LITCHET, and is an island village that is surrounded by a sea of green fields and countryside. Many of the village roads and properties are geographically elevated and afford views over Poole Bay and the Purbeck Hills. Local facilities include a tesco express, hairdressers, library and post office, whilst there are a number of community clubs and associations that operate, including local junior and senior football teams. The village is complimented by the local junior school (ages 4-11 years), with senior education being provided by Lytchett Minster Senior School located around 2 miles from the village.Local worship is either at the Methodist Chapel, (situated in the heart of the village), or at Lady St Mary, (a church that dates to the Norman era, to the North of the village). Annual events worthy of note are the Village Carnival and Flower and Garden Show, held each summer.

About two miles to the east of Lytchett Matravers lies the residential area of Upton. This is the location of the second office of Arden Nicholson, with the area giving less of a village and more of an urban feel. Comprising a range of properties with mixed densities throughout the area, there are still very private and beautiful parts of Upton, some of which have views over Holes Bay, towards Poole. Local facilities comprise a good mix of retail shops, library and medical centre. There is good public transport links by bus to Swanage and Poole, with Hamworthy railway station within 1.5 miles with main line links to London Waterloo. The infant and junior schools (ages 4-7 and 7-11) link into Lytchett Minster Senior school located around two miles to the west of Upton. With the choice of beautiful locations within either a village or urban environment, it is small wonder that the area has a particularly high demand for residential properties in both rental and purchasing markets.
